We provide a full range of acute adult services to our local population of circa 350,000 and provide tertiary services across a much wider area in the North West, North Wales and Isle of Man. We are a Major Trauma Unit and the Mersey Regional Burns Unit.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Staff Nurse on Ward 5D, stroke rehabilitation at Whiston Hospital; we are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual, with a passion for excellence within the delivery of patient care.
The successful candidate will be part of a happy, friendly, forward thinking team which cares and motivates patients in the rehabilitation phase of their care.
Recent unit development has resulted in a hyper-acute and rehabilitation unit running side by side achieving positive and effective patient experiences.
The department has a high profile within the Medical Care Group with a very successful Stroke service, Orthogeriatrics and Frailty service.
Stroke services have a comprehensive, highly motivated multidisciplinary team comprising 8 specialist nurses, dedicated physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech and language therapy which offer a 7 day service, with access to othoptics, dietetics and psychology.
We have an excellent training package, that is compromises of simulation training and we have recently linked with UCLAN that has provided Stroke specific competency framework.
The stroke team were also awarded the Trust Team of the year in 2016, and have recently won the 2018 outstanding achievement award, accolades we are very proud of.
Whether you are newly qualified, about to qualify or experienced nurse, making the transition from community nursing to acute care you will be supported by the Trust, to make the transition as a Registered Nurse, into whatever acute setting you are offered a position in the department’s skills mix and complex patients are the premises for enhancing your career and acquire transferable skills for most of the nursing specialities.
The clinical teams are there to support you in your new role and there is a 12 month Preceptorship Programme; that provides you with additional training, support and a competency based workbook to help you in your development.
